Divided: Debunking the Myths about Amendment 2

Before we vote on Amendment Two tomorrow, I thought that I would take a minute to debunk the propaganda that Noclonning.org is spreading via billboards, websites, and other publications.

Please take a moment to review the actual amendment. This will help you decide for yourself instead of being swayed by their lies.

Now on to the Myths (LIES):

1. According to a billboard on 1-70, Amendment Two will allow for aborted fetuses to be used in stem cell research.

This could not be farther from the truth. According to the amendment "No human blastocyst (small mass of cells used to produce stem cells) may be produced by fertilization solely for the purpose of stem cell research." These cells are obtained from IN VITRO fertilization clinics. When a couple is deemed infertile, sometimes they choose to have an embryo implanted in the mother. Because the rate of success is not always good, In vitro fertilization clinics generate several embryos. A lot of times these embryos are extra and will eventually be discarded. A couple has the right to DONATE these embryos with written consent for stem cell research. NO ABORTIONS.


2. A radio ad from nocloning.org states that women are donating their eggs solely for stem cell research.

WOMEN ARE NOT DONATING THEIR EGGS FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH. Again, Please refer to MYTH ONE. The amendment directly states, "No human blastocyst (small mass of cells used to produce stem cells) may be produced for the purpose of stem cell research."

3. The name of the website directly implies that Amendment Two will allow cloning.

The bill directly states that, " No person may clone or attempt to clone a human being." The define cloning as, " means to implant in a uterus or attempt to implant in a uterus anything other than the product of fertilization of an egg of a human female by a sperm of a human male for the purpose of initiating a pregnancy that could result in the creation of a human fetus, or the birth of a human being." Hmm... How is this cloning?

Please know that Amendment TWO is only establishing rights that are already given to us under US FEDERAL LAW.

BY VOTING FOR AMENDMENT TWO, we could find cures to the some of the most debilitating diseases like Diabetes, Parkinson's, Multiple sclerosis, and Cystic Fibrosis.
